To June Cook

What you say about our grandchildren's knowledge of the sixties being
limited only to drugs is so very important and so very true (I too am
55). I personally feel only limited (read little) kindness toward those
who did not try harder to understand why we hung our flags upside down,
and while this was all 30 years ago, it continues to be just as
important. In the eighties, people who didn't understand what was
happening in the sixties were supporting the murder of peasants in the
Nicaraguan countryside. I was THERE. I saw the difference between what
we were being told back "home" and what was really happening. It will go
on and on and on and on unless we can state things accurately and -- to
be trite -- unless we teach our children not to let history repeat, etc.
