I'll answer in more detail on the ticket (since I think that is the 
proper place for it), but one point below:

That's not true at all. The position of the <lb/> element is about 
location, sure, but the element can also carry @n giving a line number 
to the following line; @ed giving the edition(s) in which this is the 
position of a line-break/beginning; @break saying whether this should or 
should not be considered word-dividing; @type; @corresp; etc. We might 
not only want to be able to indicate one or more different types of 
uncertainty (or precision or attribution) about many of these 
attributes, but we might want to offer alternative values using 
@assertedValue on <certainty/>.
