Some may indeed think that way, but to my mind this has always been
something of a red herring. Vendors are clever enough to know the
difference between succinct and verbose markup (to assess the
density of the product, as it were), and to set their prices
accordingly. If you insist on short tags, they will charge more
per byte; if long tags, they will charge less. The only issue
arises when they are offered a choice, in which case they may
well price on the basis of short tags and deliver long ones.
