The XPointer ad hoc working group (myself, Martin, Piotr, Laurent, Syd
Baumann and Hugh Cayless) is using the old "Stand-off markup" mailing
list (archives at
<http://listserv.brown.edu/archives/cgi-bin/wa?A0=TEI-SOM>) to discuss
possible approaches to making TEI XPointer schemes more useful. Possible
recommendations at the end of the day might include:

  * completely abandon XPointer and recommend (or develop) some other
scheme;
  * drop most of the obscurer functions and keep only xpath() and/or
xpath2()
  * leave everything alone, but possibly do something about improving
the implementation

I have asked the workgroup to come up with a self-imposed deadline to
report back to Council.
