Piotr,
I suspect that you used a Visa Electron, Maestro, or other card to pay
instead of a Visa, MasterCard, or other true credit card. Since these
work differently on the back end, the hotel probably wanted to guarantee
that you would be able to pay upon checkin, which is why they charged
you the whole price, plus extra in case you incurred extra charges
during your stay just in case. But then when you checked out (the point
at which you would typically be charged), the person at the desk
processed the transaction without realizing that you had already paid.
As for $30 difference, I do imagine this was human error on their end.
I think you can resolve this with them over the phone. I hope they have
a record of charges from their end that won't require you to give them a
copy of your account statement.
