[tei-council] Help installing the TEI deb?

Hi all,

I'm trying to install the TEI deb packages, which I understand is the 
best way to get a working TEI build environment so I can test my changes 
before committing them. I've downloaded the complete TEI stuff, and I 
see two scripts in there:

tei/xml/tei/odd/Utilities/tei-install.sh
tei/xml/tei/odd/Utilities/tei-install-deb.sh

If I run the first, it attempts to connect with sourceforge using 
Sebastian's logon. Even if I modify the script to use my own logon, I 
get a cascade of errors; there seems to be an assumption in the script 
that a specific directory structure exists on the local machine.

If I try to run the second script, I get lots of errors that look like this:

dpkg-deb: `tei-p5-doc__all.deb' is not a debian format archive


Has anyone succeeded in getting the packages installed on Ubuntu 
recently? If so, how did you do it? (I'm using Ubuntu 10.4 [Lucid], 64-bit.)
