Dear Christian and council members,
thank you very much for your kind wishes. It was a privilege to serve on
the Council although I do realize my input has been rather minimal.
Keep up the good work and never forget the average moderate technical
skills of much of the TEI community (hence the wide succes of TEILite).
Since this has always been one of my main concerns, I'm happy to report
that funding has been secured from King's College London, in
collaboration with The Centre for Scholarly Editing and Document Studies
(CTB) of the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature (Belgium)
and University College London for the construction of a suite of online
tutorials called "TEI by Example". These online tutorials would provide
a useful teaching and learning aid to those embarking on a markup
project in TEI and will of course address P5. Ron Van den Branden will
be the executive project officer and the project will be managed by
Melissa Terras and myself. Development of the tutorials will begin at
the CTB in January 2006. We hope to announce a first release in Autumn
2006.
Best wishes and so long,
Edward
