I first encountered this sign as a stylized symbol of a bomber
(aircraft), in the buttons worn by supporters of the CUCND (Combined
University Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament), at McGill University in
Montreal, Canada, where I was a student '61-'65.

As I recall, the CUCND was a branch of the CND, which began in
England in the '50s. This symbol and the 'Peace' symbol are identical,
so I have always assumed that the latter derived from the former.
