We're making a film on the history, ideas, and legacy of Students for a
Democratic Society. The film will follow SDS from its beginnings, inspired by
the civil rights movement, & follow it's transformation into a hard-hitting
protest movement against the war, with over 100,000 members & 400 chapters all
over the country, that finally ended in a splintered SDS at the end of the
decade. The film will focus on local chapters and community organizing
projects as well as the national organization. When finished, we expect the
film to be shown in theaters, TV, and hopefully on a campus near you.

We were active members of SDS for most of the Sixties (director/producer Helen
Garvy was a founder of Harvard SDS & Asst Nat'l Sec 1964-5; associate producer
Robert Pardun was a founder of U Texas SDS and Nat'l Internal Education Sec
1967-8). We care deeply about this subject and hope to present a view of SDS
that will both ring true for SDS folks and help people today understand that
period.

We've been working on the film for a couple years now & have finished filming
the interviews that will be the core of the film (including both key national
leaders and local activists). We're now in the editing stage, putting it all
together & adding in archival footage & photos.

We're looking for more folks who were in SDS anytime in the Sixties, & we'd
especially like to know of people who have photos of SDS activities (& posters
& leaflets) from that period, or who know of local film/TV footage. We're
already in touch with most people who were active on the national level but
have only begun to reconnect the tens of thousands of local chapter activists.
We'd love to hear from anyone who was active in SDS. Send a street address &
we'll send you more information on the film.
