Basically what happened was that Kitt criticized U. S. involvement in
Vietnam at a luncheon organized by Lady Byrd Johnson. The incident is
briefly described in Gerald Gill's "From Maternal Pacificism to
Revolutionary Solidarity" which in Sights on the Sixties edited by
Barbara Tischler.
