Barbara Tillett, Chief, Cataloging Policy and Support Office, Library of
Congress will be visiting us November 11-12. Below is a brief description
of her lecture. I'll be sending out more formal announcements as soon as
Regina supplies me with a copy. I suspect there may be a fair number of
people in the Library not affiliated with SDS that will be interested in
her talk, and so please pass along the lecture information. Flyers should
also appear soon.
In addition, we need to plan her visit. She expressed a desire to leave
after her talk on Tuesday, and so we essentially have all of Monday to
discuss SDS with her. I am open to suggestions on the schedule. In fact,
PLEASE send me suggestions!

Title: Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records: What is FRBR and
how will it impact our cataloging rules and authority control?
Abstract: This presentation covers the conceptual model presented in the
International Federation of Library Associations' Functional Requirements
for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), the entities, relationships, and
attributes from that model, and how it is currently affecting work on the
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, including an extension of the model into
the realm of authority control.
