As a medievalist for some 45 years, I would say that statement is
utter nonsense, and it was utter nonsense when Le Goff wrote it 17 years ago.
I won't even try to point to the hundreds of books and thousands of
articles which contradict Le Goff.
But it is the sort of absurd overgeneralized statement I'd expect
from him.. It does not even describe the work of his contemporary
French medieval historians.
