Subject: Humanist Web page

One Humanist wrote to me saying that he was disappointed in the rather
inbred list of Web resources to which the Humanist Web page points. My reply
was that it was so brief because I did not have the time to construct a
truly comprehensive list of 1st-class resources. That's the simple truth.
I'm certainly willing to take recommendations for high-quality,
well-maintained metalists, however, and if someone wants seriously to
volunteer....

Being serious myself, I would welcome candidates for Webmaster of a Humanist
metaguide to resources. All of you must know by now what a commitment that
would represent. It would have to be consistent with Humanist in perspective
and content as well as stylistically. I wouldn't want simply to point to
something already in existence that had originated from different
objectives. The breadth of coverage on the resources page would be a
challenge. Furthermore, I wonder if it wouldn't be not only difficult but
also in principle a vain undertaking, at least to be comprehensive. These
days I find myself using search engines (such as Alta Vista and Open Text
Web Index) to find what I need rather than anyone's list, even my own.
