Using Computers to Teach Writing
Discover how you can use a new communications environment -
computer-mediated communication, or CMC -to teach writing and
facilitate other forms of communication. This workshop will
include a demonstration of Daedalus InterChange, the most
widely used network software for writing and collaborative
work.

materials of the future." Pat Hutchings and Steve Gilbert are
eager to get your reactions and advice - and to let you know
how to connect with AAHE's work on teaching. This session

Using Multimedia Technology Inside the Classroom to

At Wright State University, teaching with multimedia - i.e.,
using a personal computer to combine text, sound/music,
images, and full motion - has led to improved student
learning, particularly in large general-education classes.
Presenters will demonstrate how technology is used in three
disciplines and then share data that shows improved academic
performance among students.

Using Information Technologies to Better Meet the
Needs of Students With Disabilities
The computer - with appropriate adaptive hardware and
software - enables the disabled and provides them with a more
level educational environment, resulting in the inclusion and
empowerment of learners and teachers with physical
disabilities as never before. The presenter will describe in
nontechnical terms some of this new technology, explain how
it is used.

language arts and science courses.

Academic Workplace
In this session, the presenter will discuss the possibilities
and implications of adapting new technologies to the realm of
the scholar and the world of academia: the need to change our
methods of instruction; the role of interactive texts that
let students experiment, simulate, and reflect; and the
dangers of the "experiential" mode of perceiving, if
Hollywood standards rule the construction of multimedia
textbooks.
