Professor Patricia Hunt of Loyola Marymount University, who is not on the
HUMANIST (or any) net, has asked me to submit the following posting,
which may be of interest to MLA members:
The following is a proposal for a special session at the 1992 MLA convention.
"Embodied Minds: Rehumanizing the Humanities"
Addressing Mark Turner's notion, presented in
READING MINDS: THE STUDY OF ENGLISH IN THE AGE OF
COGNITIVE SCIENCE (Princeton, 1991), that "Culture,
society, and language are patterns in the human brain,"
papers which will discuss the humanities as the investigation
of "human thought, human language, and human literature."
