 1) the command "make changelog" in the P5 sources remakes the file ReleaseNotes/ChangeLog which contains a human-readable summary of changes from SVN. I am wondering how to automate this

 9) the reason for running "tei-database-rebuild" is to refresh the eXist database used by Roma. important to note this, I think.

 14) worth suggesting you visit http://www.tei-c.org/Roma/, click on defaults, and check that a) it works, and b) the version number is right in the footer
