on reflection, I think I may see a glimmer of light, in the shape of the ENRICH Garage
(http://dl.psnc.pl/software/EGE/). If that can be configured to perform ODD conversions
(which should be possible), it can act as a Roma web service.  It would then be plausible
to patch the old Roma to use that, if someone can find a PHP hacker for a few days.
