Okay, I withdraw my objection to using XML syntax as the base.

Actually, it is probably the case that RELAX NG compact syntax seems 
"inuitive" mainly to people who have worked with DTDs and other 
notational forms using similar conventions (regular expressions, for 
example), but to a complete beginner I suppose it would look just as 
incomprehensible as an XML-syntax schema.
