As I reported last time we discussed this, the ISO workgroup has now
produced and will shortly be voting on a completely new document, which
will be part 2 of the existing ISO 24610. This new document is
unfortunately maintained as a single LaTeX file, which makes it very
difficult to keep in step with the P5 ODD source.
It contains one section which corresponds more or less exactly with the
P5 chapter on FSD, and I have therefore manually collated the two,
making all revisions necessary in the latter to bring it in line with
the former. The ISO draft also adds a great deal of useful background
material at various places, ranging from detailed examples to formal
definitions for basic feature-structure concepts, which in another life
I would like to have integrated into the Guidelines as well, but this is
simply impossible within the current time frame. What I have done
therefore is added the following sentence to the TEI chapter:
"This chapter relies upon, but does not reproduce, formal definitions
and descriptions presented more thoroughly in the ISO standard, which
should be consulted in case of ambiguity or uncertainty."
Time permitting, I would still like to try to integrate FS and FD into a
single chapter, but I cannot realistically promise this for 1 August.
There are also still a few unresolved technical issues, which it would
be easier to address if the two chapters were integrated.
