This I agree with as well. Sugar is a way of simplifying things. I'm
still in favour of "TEI namespace if your renaming doesn't conflict and
can be undone cleanly"

But do you Sebastian? If you think Sugar is not a namespace issue,
surely you think it needs to be undoable for interchange?
