Dear Council members,

As you will be aware, some volunteers from among us (Syd, John, Laurent,
Lou, Sebastian, James and myself) met in Oxford at the end of
September to discuss a complete overhaul on classes. We spent two
full days and then some of us another morning on this, discussing some
general principles and then trying to apply them to some modules. The
notes from this meeting are now at
http://www.tei-c.org/Council/tcm20.xml?style=printable . I would like
to encourage all Council members to look at this document and
familiarize themselve with the content of this document. One open
question that needs addressing urgently is the issue of how classes
are to be named -- we discussed this and the discussion is reflected
in http://www.tei-c.org/Drafts/edw87.xml?style=printable, but no
decision, not even a coherent proposal has been reached.

All the best,

Christian Wittern
