GARCIA GUITAR DISPUTE STILL HAS TAX STRINGS ATTACHED
San Francisco Chronicle
A dispute over taxes has caused another snag in the legal saga of the
late Grateful Dead leader Jerry Garcia's guitars, just as the issue was
about to be resolved. In an apparent attempt to avoid paying taxes on
one of the guitars that Garcia willed to its maker, Doug Irwin,
attorneys for Deborah Koons-Garcia asked a Marin County [Cal.] judge
yesterday to find that the guitar should pass directly from Grateful
Dead Productions to Irwin, leaving Irwin to pay the taxes.
