The way to end the threat of terrorism is to pull out of the six bases
the U.S. has in Saudi Arabia and to insist that Israel recognize a
Palestinian state consisting of the lands that were Palestine before the
`1967 war, as the UN has voted over and over and over and over again.
Doubtless that would result in re-negotiation of oil leases and
contracts, raising the price at the pump to European levels. We would
have to build museums of SUVs, reduce the number of cars to one per
family, build subways for the cities, and fast railroads matching those
of Japan and France for all but thousand-mile-and-more travel, favor
generation of energy by means other than use of fossil fuel. Smart
capitalists will put their money into that. Dumb ones will become
fossils, as will whichever political party (parties?) stick with them.
