When we at CCNY picketed in 1933 protesting the president's invitation to the commanding general of the NY Corps Area as featured speaker at the college's annual commemoration of its founding, the president, in top hat and tails, was so outraged by the perceived insult to his guest that he stopped their open limousine, got out and attacked the 200 of us with his umbrella.
