The attachment is Joanne Landy's and my pro-Nader ad in the October 23 issue of the Nation, signed by academics, intellectuals, artists and writers; below is the text with an updated list of signers (and of course, sixties-l people are invited to sign as the statement continues to circulate (utopia1@attglobal.net). But seriously, folks, last night I was one of about 16,000 people in Madison Square Garden at what Phil Donohue I'm sure correctly described as the biggest rally (any and all parties) of the 2000 campaign. Many sixties people (like myself) are active in this campaign, and were present in the largely youthful crowd (and the joyful marching-band led march on the General Post Office afterwards.) Altough I have reservations (see the statement), it was by and large a powerful experience, both for its intrinsic political qualities and for its continuties with the sixties. The music was great, with Ani deFranco, Ben Harper, Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith and others.) It was certainly a moving few minutes when Eddie Vedder led the crowd ("with permission of the author") in singing "The Times they are a Changin."
