I would like to suggest that all who are going to engage this discussion of
the MIA/POW contentions also make every attempt to read a book entitled
Prisoners of Culture:Representing the Vietan POW by Elliott Gruner (Rutgers
University Press, 1993). It is particularly good and useful in analysing
the nature and origins of the specific rhetorics employed by civilian
groups, women, and the government entities that set and reset the
circumstances of what the public was told about POW/MIA issues.
