Almost 30 years ago some of us from our commune Green Mountain Red in Vermont
visited Black Bear and an early snow stranded us there for a few weeks,
waiting for a road crew and snow plow to clear the road.
    My happy memories there were
    l. Putting out a snare for a deer as we lacked food, catching one , eating
it and giving the liver to a woman at Black Bear who had just given birth to
    a child that night.
    2. Taking a shower from water being heated by a wood stove. The shower was
outside the kitchen door. It was snowing around me and I was warm in the
    shower.
    3. Learning to knit with scrapes of yarn and I made a muti color sweater.
    4. Sleeping in the childrens room and being read to everynight.

For me it was a wonderful few weeks, for my friend it was the worst time of
her life. my best, roz payne
