I would like to notify subscribers to the Sixties-list and other
interested parties of my new book, "America in the Sixties, Right, Left,
and Center: A Documentary History," (Westport, CT: Praeger, 1998),
edited by Peter B. Levy (the author of this post). Unlike other works,
this compilation of primary sources looks at the era from the
perspective of new leftists, liberals and conservatives. It includes
the manifestos of both the Students for a Democratic Society and the
Young Americans for Freedom. In addition to selections from well-known
radicals such as Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden, it contains pieces by
figures often associated with other times, such as Reverend Billy Graham
and Ronald Reagan. Besides covering key political developments, from
the rise of the civil rights movement to the emergence of the women's
movement, it provides glimpse of numerous memorable moments: Kennedy's
debate with Nixon, Oswald's assassination of Kennedy, Walter Cronkite's
report on the Tet Offensive, and the NY Mets winning the world series.
