In an earlier note sent to this list I stated that
in the 60s I had read Horowitz' Free World Colossus
and found it to be persuasive and informative. It is
a book I would still recommend to young people
interested in studying foreign policy issues in
American history.

In a post to this list Horowitz has made reference
to "second thoughts" about this work. I wonder
if he would inform the list about what he now
specifically finds disagreeable about his earlier
work, and what evidence came to his attention to
inspire a change in his thinking.

I am not making any judgments about whether
Horowitz is guilty of "opportunism."
