I see no way to separate *any kind* of "cultural occurances" of
youth and students (so-called hippie gatherings, freelove, acid test,
concert) during the era of the U.S. - Viet Nam war --- from the U.S.
government and it's foreign and domestic policies of the time.
The U.S. government stood for death, war and oppression, at the
very least.
