Have you thought of Susan Douglass' _Where the Girls Are: Growing Up
Female with the Mass Media_, a very undergraduate-friendly but
provocative discussion of the role that popular culture played in the
lives of the generation of (white middle-class) women who were adolescents
in the late 50's and early 60's and then created the women's liberation
movement? It went over very well in my class on the politics and culture
of the 60's.
