My name is Keri Manning and I am a Ph.D. student in history at University
of Kentucky. I am doing research on Vietnam Veterans Against the War; I am
going through a couple of different protests and their rhetoric. I am
trying to analyze how they tried to undermine social constructions of
masculinity and patriotism, embodied in the iconography of John Wayne.
Does anyone know of any really good examinations of masculinity and
patriotism during the Cold War era that can help illuminate the ties
between these two concepts? Or can anyone point me in the direction of
other work that deals with challenges to masculine identities? I'd
appreciate anything.
Thanks you in advance.
