Hello, everybody!
For a creative project, I'm trying to come up with the lyrics of a marching song
the D.I.'s had us singing in Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood in early 1969,
at a time when it seemed almost all of us trainees were headed to Nam. The tune
was the pop hit "Poison Ivy," but the lyrics were about serving as a G.I. in
Vietnam. Instead of "Poison ivy comes a-creepin'," I know we sang "Charlie comes
a creepin'". And in the chorus "Char-lie-ee" replaced "Poison Ivy."
Does anyone recall these lyrics en toto?
By the way, I ended up as a linguist (98G) in the now defunct Army Security
Agency in Germany, at an outstation of Rothwesten (near Braunschweig and
Helmstedt) after being taught Russian at the DLI (former Army Language School)
in Monterey, California. Are there any former ASA-er's on this listserv?
