Tobias Wolff and "The Machine in the Garden"

I'd like to support Dick Crepeau's mailing by suggesting subscribers look
up a very stimulating short story by Tobias Wolff - "In the Garden of the
North American Martyrs" - which I've used in my GEC 345 class Literature and
the Modern World. Although the story has no explicit 60s reference, it is an
ideal example of what Dick has cited as "The Machine in the Garden" of the
conservative academic system he describes as having taken over the campus
system of University activism during the 60s.
