Michael Bibby,

Take a look at the early novels of Marge Piercy, including DANCE THE
EAGLE TO SLEEP and SMALL CHANGES (1973), the latter a classic, if
somewhat longish.

Mr. Bibby,

I'm still thinking about your question about feminist novels before
1972. Here a a few others which might be suitable:

Gail Godwin's GLASS PEOPLE (1972) and PERFECTIONISTS (1970).

Marge Piercy's GOING DOWN FAST.

Take a look at the early work of Joyce Carol Oates:

By the North Gate (1963 novel)
A Garden of Earthly Delights (1967 novel)
Expensive People (1968 novel)
Marriages and Infidelities (1972 short story collection)
them (1969 novel)
Upon the Sweeping Flood (1966 short story collection)
The Wheel of Love (1970 short story collection)
With Shuddering Fall (1965 novel)
Wonderland (1971 novel)

Ontario Review Press is reprinting some of Ms. Oates' early work.
Good luck!
