Bravo, Sandra Flowers. Her comment on the crucial importance
to the culture of the 1960s of the civil rights movement is one
of the rare references to the black freedom struggle I have
seen on the list, nominally about the sixties. For many of
us--almost all of us who were southern and "activist"--the
freedom movement was the defining event of that decade. I
wonder if there are others on this list who feel likewise?
Virtually all of the postings I read have nothing to say about
the South, where the great struggles took place and the shaping
visions of an integrated society were formed.
