There's a very good dissertation by Daniel Hinman-Smith (I can't remember
the exact title, but something like "Does the Word `Freedom' Have a
Meaning?") that examines the connections between the 1964 Freedom Summer
and the Free Speech Movement. It's not exactly what you're looking for,
but it's quite good.
