I am a graduate student at Syracuse University majoring in Environmental
Engineering. I have always been a big fan of the phenomena known as the
sixties and have always been intrigued as to why people thought and
behaved the way they did back then.
Over Christmas I happened to visit San Francisco:-) hoping to catch some
of that magic. Being a list member on the Jefferson Airplane list I was
even more excited to vist the sites associated with that band.
Unfortunately things were not as pretty as I had hoped it to be. HA was
one large hangout joint with commercialism ruling the roost at every
site. There was a general air of despondency and the people were at large
lost and defeated. This was not the HA I had envisaged when I was growing
up in India. Peace and Love were being artificially played by the crowd!!
I promptly reported my findings to the list members on the JA list. They
were ever so sympathetic and understanding and even solicited a words of
wisdom sprinkled with caution.
I am still searching for the elusive people who made the sixties what
they were. Then again maybe I am searching in the wrong places. Perhaps a
look in the corridors of power or even in the Hall of Fame might lead me
to them.
Enlightment anyone

Peace and Love
