I'd like to hear from Michael and Ellen and other JHUP people about the
issues raised in the discussion. What do you see as the role of
publishers in this medium? Will the press's contribution to our
published articles make subscription more valuable than the plain html
text we have produced so far has been? (That's one of the assumptions of
our contract--an explicit affirmative answer might answer some of the
questions asked here.) Is the press's role in the new environment the
same as it is in the print environment, and if not what's the
difference? It would be good to tell our subscribers that more than
money is at issue: that press expertise and experience contribute to the
journal in ways we could not, so that the press does not simply fund what
we already did but adds to it uniquely.
