The number of artists on your current list who are not well known is
both inspiring and somewhat problematic. Working with this list is
just too time consming, but it was fascinating to see the number of
artists involved who work in print media or for whom you have works on
paper.
Next year I will be teaching two courses on 20th century American art,
so any works from this listing will be helpful. Since my courses
function as both introductory surveys and in-depth considerations of
relevant issues in current art historical writing, the artists that I
discuss most frequently are the major figures of C20 painting and
sculpture. Will we continue to have access to this expanded list so that
students could take advantage of its diversity to undertake projects that
diverge from the "great artists" traditions?
