My teaching next year includes a course on the 1960s and courses that
explore 20th century photography, with emphasis on landscape and
conceptual work. From the listing you provided, groups of works
by individual artists, that allow comparative work will allow me
to text well the potential for research. The artists whose listings
would be useful would seem to be: Berenice Abbott, Ansel Adams, Robert
Adams, John Baldessari, Lewis Baltz, Harry Callahan, William
Christenberry, Lois Conner, Lee Friedlander, Joseph Jachna, Mark Klett,
Barbara Kruger,Helen Levitt, Stephen Marc, Ralph Meatyard, Ana Mendieta,
Ray Metzker,Richard Mirasch, Andrea Modia, John Pfahl, and Aaron Siskind.
Additionally, for the 60s course, it would be wonderful to have the
groups of work by Gene Davis, Sam Francis, and Sam Gilliam.
And my colleague,Professor Sharon Patton could use to excellent
advantage the bodies of work by Romare Bearden, Robert Beauchamp,
William H. Johnston, Jacob Lawrence, Edmonia Lewis, and Henry Ossawa
Tanner.
With thanks for any of the above you can supply. I am committed to
incorporating MESL as much as possible into all courses I teach,
and the quality of the NMMA images is outstanding!
