maybe it's just me, but i don't get it. at least in Mezzanine there were
some personal connections to be made with real events that were somewhat
humorous, but dark decade has none of that for me. (not that i loved
mezzanine, but at least i could read it all the way through, save one or
two lengthy footnotes). if we are to look at dark decade on face value
alone, what are we gaining from it? i just don't see much artistic merit
to something that is so annoyingly elusive and confusing if we can't find
some deeper meaning. this book gave me a migraine, and i have
thrown it across my room more than once in frustration. if there is no
deeper meaning, and we are to take it as art on the surface, then what is
the art that we are supposed to be appreciating? granted, drucker is
witty with phrases and creative with word-usage, but what's the point if i
can't undersand what she's trying to say? or is she trying to "say"
anything?
