i find that drucker is very enticing for the bookstore browser. she seems
to provide an outlet from underwrought prose and media gibberish. she
states that she is herself interested in what is considered lower forms of
prose, such as soap operas. once i had begun to delve into the book, i
found myself changing my reading style over and over. at first i read in
the same manner i would approach any book, with thought yet not analyzing
each sentence independently of its neighbors. as i progressed i found my
self to be taking apart the sentences word by word in an attempt to
extract a deeper meaning, or should i say clearer meaning.
frustrated with this time consuming approach, i began to let the words
flow together and make a soup of images. in this way i can store these
fragments to be reconstructed when i finish the book.
this book brings to mind an image of swimming through molasses. the
browser doesn't realize the difficulty of the prose and is pulled in by
the exciting images drucker creates with each sentence. i can't decide
whether this book is freeing me from the poorly thought out prose of the
media or entangling me in it more.
