I just finished the book today and until I had, I really had no
idea why the author had written the book. now i think i have
some idea. In the last footnote Howie says that he was relieved
to know that Mr. Czaplicki would find out the answer to his
questions about shoelace wear. Maybe Baker wants the readers to
think about his other trivial questions and maybe come up with
some answers. I don't know if this is necessarily true but i do
think he wants the reader to think about the small details of
life.
