After finishing The Mezzanine, I still have to say that I liked the book.
I admit that, after a while, some of the longer footnotes became a little
tiresome, but I still enjoyed the book on the whole.
I think I differ from Carter in that I don't need to find some greater good
or lesson in a book. I can still be satisfied by a story that has no great
purpose or aim. This book, to me, was interesting and entertaining. I
liked the fact that I could relate to so many of these trivial actions or
habits described by Howie. Granted, I didn't finish the book and think,
"wow, that was amazing!", but I would still recommend The Mezzanine to a
friend.

But that's just my $.02
