I'm bored with UTEOFW conversation. What's interesting to this
boy is The Mezzanine. This is a guy that seems to relate to
the world and to himself (his memories, his past) largely
through material things and commodities.
While no American Psycho, this guy is strangely careful about
the commodities he consumes. I'm sure you've dined with people
like this; they want everything just so. While it's doubtful
that without shoelaces he wouldn't remember his mother, it
kinda seems that way. This is interesting in The
Mezzanine b/c the things that we don't think about are thought
about, and summon up these long memories... Should we consider
the shoelace for instance?
There's also the same ambivalence about things, that we've seen
in WN... along with the same kind of wonder that things bring.
Aaaand, this is a sentimental novel to the Nth degree. Aaand
he's a office worker that does nothing... Aaand...
