I thought the movie was terrible as well. I didn't get anything out of it. To
me, the movie did not depict any kind of message or theme. It was not
intellectual, not emotional at all, not philopsophical... I didn't even see
it as very artistic. It was nothing that I feel constitutes a stimulating
movie.
I can see that it is actually two movies: the chase after Sam(Trevor) and the
half about memory recording. I feel that the second part of the movie was
completely unnecessary. I agree that the movie would have ended fine at the
scene with Sam and Claire in the airplane when it stopped working. I feel
that the purpose of the second half of the movie was to bring a conclusion to
the main characters' lives: resolution of the relationship between Claire and
Gene, Sam's relationship with his father and his purpose for running around
the world, and Gene's novel. I do not think that all of this was necessary.
An open ended movie would have been more interesting.
I think maybe I missed the point of the movie as well.
