I agree with nick about the TV feel that White Noise embodies.
however, I think that Baba and JAK like to hang out with Wilder so much
not because he is uninterested in commercialism on TV, but because (being
the youngest) he is the farthest away from death than all of them.
Because they fear death so intensely,Wilder is a comfort to them because
he is unaffected by this fear and is so innocent about everything. They
also relish the fact that he can only say a few words becuase he seems to
be trapped in time as a young and unaffected character who enjoys the
simple pleasures like boiling water while the rest of the family obsesses
about death all the time.
