i was very impressed with the look of group 2s project, especially the
professional graphics. since each of the group members contributed
their own piece, i thought i would deal with every section
separately...
frisk pant -- i really like the theory behind the project, combining
subtle 'hidden' language with direct, intentional language. one
question i have is about the apparent choice of romance novel language
to represent language that intentionally subverts. i can understand
why the comparison was made, but i would have liked the theory to
explain why this choice was made, as well.
as far as the project itself, i thought the weaving back and
forth between the two styles of language was skillful. i tried to
anticipate where a given link was going to send me, but i was wrong
nearly every time -- it became something of a game, until i hit what
seems to be one of the nodes of the 'middle axis' which combines the
two languages -- node02.html. it seemed a fitting end to my journey.
from a purely technical point of view though, th link colors
on the light purple background are almost impossible to read -- was
this intentional?
quilted - as of 9:30 thursday night, i saw no links leading from this
first page, though i remember seeing a project here before...
caffeine - interesting way of maneuvering once you get past the
imagemap, with some links having no words at all. are they supposed
to represent the links between the molecules in the original caffeine
diagram? i think there's an interesting correlation between the 'nodes'
and 'links' in the molecules and a diagram of hypertext, with links
leading out from various nodes -- something i think we talked about in
one of the first classes.
kitten silencers - another fascinating theory. i can see or feel
different personalities or environments between poems (i think) but i'm
not sure i understand the role that the links play in this. why are
certain words hypertexted? is there a connection between the word and
the poem behind it, oris it just a mechanism to allow further travel? i
can't see the connection in content, so i feel as little let down
whenever i follow one link rather than another. perhaps this could be
explained...
mama poems - i like the concept, and the first story.
palimpsest - fantastic look to the poem that first comes up, especiallyt
the font. is there any way to stay on the palimpsest site, or does every
link eventually take me to webster's at cmu?
overall, a very enjoyable project. i look forward to more.
