Annie had managed to pull most of the paper out of her mouth and throat and had gotten out through Pauls window while Paul was sleeping the sleep of drugs.
Most of the paper was on the floor now, either still burning or hissing to ruin in puddles of champagne, but Annie still held some, and it was still burning. He was drifting off and knew he shouldnt - if she came in here and caught him cooping instead of writing she would be mad - but he let himself drift anyway.
